Bronze Memorial to the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer in his home town of Redditch, Worcestershire

JB8 FRIENDS Logo V2 THE MEMORIAL 310518

Thank you for visiting our website.

The aim of the John Bonham Memorial Fund is to raise an initial  £50,000 for the design and installation of a fitting permanent memorial in Redditch town centre, the birthplace of the legendary drummer from Led Zeppelin.

The preferred location for the memorial is on the Church Green, behind St Stephen's church,  next to the Bandstand and Bartleet Fountain, on land owned by Redditch Borough Council.

Any additional monies raised will be used to cover future maintenance costs.

"John played the drums like someone who didn't know what was going to happen next - like he was teetering on the edge of a cliff. No one has come close to that since, and I don't think anybody ever will. I think he will forever be the greatest drummer of all time." Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters

WE'VE DONE IT- PLANNING PERMISSION FOR JOHN'S MEMORIAL SECURED!

On Wednesday evening 11th October, Redditch Borough Council's Planning Committee granted planning permission to install a bronze memorial to John on Mercian Square in the heart of the town centre. It's taken us over 4 years to get to this point and we are over the moon.

We have the money for the sculpture itself and our sculptor, internationally renowned artist Mark Richards, has begun work already to ensure we have the memorial in place for John's 70th Birthday on 31st May 2018. Further info to follow.

Thank you all for your support.

"Hi everyone. take a listen to this. I hear a lot of people having opinions about John's drumming but this guy nails it. Stick with it because what he says is rights and its spot on. From a young age I watched John play and I took all of it in, everything that he did and where it came from and I work with my drummer the wonderfully talented Richard Newman and apply the same principle with the vocal phrases. Bless you Rich, bless you forever John. Hope you enjoy, much love to all Deborah xxx

We are overjoyed to announce that the long awaited memorial to John Henry Bonham was installed in the early hours of this morning to mark his 70th Birthday. it can be seen on Mercian Square, Alcester Street, in the heart of Redditch town centre, with the market area.

A HUGE thank -you to everyone involved in the campaign for the past 5 years. To Deborah Bonham and the Bonham family, Sculptor Mark Richards, advisor Roy Williams, Darren Paine, Redditch Borough Council, and a special mention to the company that turned the dream into a reality in bronze, Morris Singer Foundry. They worked day and night in the week leading up to 30th May to get the Memorial finish and installed in time for John's birthday.

And to Sam and Clem Dallaway whose idea it was initially,

Last but by no means least, to everyone who donated their time, efforts and money to enable this to happen.
